Wedding Dinner Party Ideas
So you want to throw a dinner party for your family and friends but don’t know where to begin? First and foremost, do not panic! Yes, throwing a dinner party can be intimidating at first, but once you get the basics right, you’ll be fine.
We’ll walk you through everything you need to know about hosting, as well as some tips and tricks to make your dinner party a success.
Party Equipment
Nothing says “put-together” like a great set of matching dinnerware, but don’t let a lack of “adult” plates prevent you from hosting. If you want to buy matching tableware, glassware, and cutlery, you don’t have to spend a fortune! Furthermore, these one-time purchases will be quite handy for future dinner parties.
We recommend matching dinner and dessert plates, bowls, silverware, drinking glasses, and wine glasses. A lovely, reusable tablecloth is also a wonderful investment to complete the aesthetic of the table.
Serving plates, serving utensils, linen napkins, tablecloths, and a pitcher are some other items to consider but are not required.
Party Food
Keep it basic when it comes to what you’re providing — for your own sake. You can prepare a standard three-course meal with an appetizer, entrée, and dessert, or you can provide your guests with a buffet-style bar. Your menu does not have to be complicated in any case.
Start with bruschetta, then move on to an easy-yet-fancy spaghetti supper, and finish with an Italian-inspired dessert, such as tiramisu or zeppole.
Try stuffed mushrooms first, then a steak meal with potatoes and vegetables, and finish with cheesecake or chocolate cake.
Start with bacon-wrapped scallops, then move on to grilled salmon with rice and veggies, and finish with key lime pie or orange cake.
Start with a Caprese salad, then go on to chicken Marsala or chicken Parmesan, and finish with lemon meringue pie or vanilla ice cream.
Dessert
Yes, frozen appetizers are a tremendous time saver, but you may also store prepared food in your freezer, especially desserts. You may prepare and freeze fresh sweets like cheesecake, pie, cakes, and cookies in advance. Your dessert can be prepared more than a month in advance and stored in the freezer until the event.
Party Drinks
Choosing the ideal wine can be difficult, especially because everyone’s tastes varies when it comes to red, white, sparkling, or rosé. Choose wines that complement what you’re offering, but it never hurts to have some backup options for people who don’t like your first choice.
